In the eternal city of Macondo, seven generations of the Buendia family overcome love, oblivion, and the inevitability of their past and destiny. This is the most expensive Netflix project to date created in Latin America, with Colombian groups and indigenous communities creating the props and scenery for the series. 100 años de soledad is one of the greatest peaks of Spanish-language literature. Its style is unparalleled, and its scale exceeds imagination. Its characters are so well-described that no screenwriter would have trouble writing them for the big screen. But the apparently insurmountable problem in adapting the novel was its length. Condensing a hundred years of family and national history was an impossible task. Almost 60 years after its publication, the novel has found a cinematic gateway on Netflix. Only streaming can do it justice, and the first two episodes are truly promising. Brilliant cinematography, art direction, and respect for the characters. Voting is necessary so that García Márquez’s wonderful prose can be seen from time to time. The plot develops smoothly, richly and with more depth. I like it and was a little skeptical that the magical world of GGM could be transferred to the screen. Wall, so far this is a success in my book. One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our December calendar for more details!
